How Guardian GSI Programs Work

  • 180+ institutions where Guardian offers GSI — Guardian approves GSI programs at specific hospitals and universities each year.
  • No medical exams required — Eligible residents and fellows at those institutions can secure individual own-occupation coverage with no medical questions.
  • Training-only eligibility window — Most access occurs during residency or fellowship; a short post-graduation window may be available.
  • True own-occupation coverage — Policies provide own-occupation protection, the recommended choice for physician disability insurance.
  • Annual program review — Availability is reviewed annually and may renew, change, or close by institution and year.
  • Apply early — Missing the eligibility window means new coverage generally requires medical underwriting. Applying early preserves guaranteed approval and future increase options after training.
